Interview: Mistress Iris - The Clergyman

Mike Blejer

Listening to this conversation is literally a religious experience. In it Mistress Iris and I discuss her recent session with a long-time client who's in the clergy (though whether he's Christian, Muslim, or Jew is left ambiguous). We explore what it's like to have a private life when you're a public figure, how a pillar of a community may need to go to the proverbial well to restore himself, self-denial, strength, and shame, and catharsis both spiritual and carnal. It's a mouthful, and an earful, and wherever you're at on the belief spectrum, I think you'll find it fascinating and delightful.

As always, you can check out more of Iris' and my conversations on her website.

Interview: Micah Sherman - Improvising, A Pilot

Mike Blejer

Micah Sherman and I talk about his sitcom pilot, Improvising, which won the Left/Right Comedy Award at the 2015 New York Television Festival and is currently in development. He just finished a day of shooting on it so we discuss the intricacies of a semi-improvised show and how it's a different process both for the actors and filmmakers than a standard scripted pilot. We also discuss the relationship between improv & the military, and touch on a story of running into Bill Murray, the history of improv with Del Close, and the ways improv has saturated our culture over the past 20 years. Listen to the interview, watch the Improvising teaser below, and Check him out at MicahSherman.com

Also if you're in New York, Micah has an improvised one-act play called The Scene at The Brick Theater on March 7th. All proceeds go to the ACLU, so I would get your tickets today.

Books we discussed on the show: Guru, Truth in Comedy.

Interview: Myq Kaplan - New Album

Mike Blejer

Friend of the me, Myq Kaplan returns to talk about what it means to be a positive person in the age of Trump. While Myq hasn't tended to be explicitly political in his act, his positions on topics like veganism (he is one), atheism (he is one) and racists (he isn't one or many) has at times positioned him as being political in reflection to the culture. We talk about that, but mostly in terms of beards, glasses and holism, preferally not assholism.

He's on the verge of releasing a new album, No Kidding, available for pre-order now, and available for non-pre-order on Friday. As always, you can check out most if not all things Myq at MyqKaplan.com.

Interview: Mistress Iris - The Boy Toy

Mike Blejer

Had a lovely chat with friend of the show Mistress Iris. We discussed shopping for panties with (and for)  her new Boy Toy, speculated on the changing demographics of her clientele in response to Trump's election (more women and younger men), and the politics of the word slut. Best enjoyed with headphones.

Check out Mistress Iris and our other other episodes on her website.
